Each traveller is permitted to bring on board one ‘Carry-on bag’ plus one personal item free of charge.
Carry-On Bag
The maximum dimensions for a carry-on bag are 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches (22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm), including handles and wheels.
Personal Item
The maximum dimensions for your personal item, such as a shoulder bag, backpack, laptop bag or other small item, are 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches (22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm).
Checked baggage service charges may apply for the first two pieces of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 50 pounds (23 kg) per bag and a maximum exterior linear dimension (Linear measurement = length + width + height) of 62 inches (158 cm) per bag.
Additional checked bags or any bags that exceed these allowable weights and dimensions are subject to applicable excess, oversized and/or overweight baggage service charges. The following size and weight limits apply to checked baggage, based on the ticketed cabin and the traveller’s status on the date of travel:

United Airlines realizes that at times it may be necessary to travel with an item that exceeds the size or weight limitations or is in excess of the baggage allowance. Additional charges apply to this type of baggage.
Any piece over the baggage allowance or baggage that exceeds the size and/or weight limitations will be subject to additional charges. Excess baggage is transported on a space-available basis and will be carried subject to load capacities of the aircraft. Other restrictions may apply.
Baggage in excess of 100 pounds (45 kilograms) or 115 linear inches (292 cm)(total length + width + height) will not be accepted as checked baggage.
Customers who travel with checked baggage in excess of the baggage allowance will be required to pay a service charge per bag or item, based on the itinerary.
Certain customers are exempt from paying checked baggage service charges for one or more bags within specified size and weight limits. Customers traveling with MileagePlus Premier Members or dependents traveling with active U.S. military personnel will have the same exemption as the customer whose status provides for the benefit, as long as they are traveling on the same reservation. This exemption will not apply to group reservations including 10 or more customers or when the flight is not operated by United or United Express®.
Assistive devices, including electric wheelchairs weighing more than 100 pounds (45 kilograms), will continue to be accepted at no charge.
For flights within the U.S., as well as most international flights, baggage will generally not be accepted for check-in more than four hours before scheduled flight departure, although this policy varies by airport and based on daily check-in counter hours.
United has the right to cancel reservations, deny boarding and refuse the acceptance of checked baggage of any customer who does not meet the applicable check-in time limit.
Check-in is available starting 24 hours prior to scheduled departure.
