Malaysia Airlines was initially born as Malayan Airways Limited in October 1937, through a joint initiative between the Ocean Steamship Company of Liverpool, the Straits Steamship of Singapore and Imperial Airways which led to a proposal to the Colonial Straits Settlement government to run an air service between Penang and Singapore. In April 1947, MAL took to the skies with its first commercial flight as the national airline. Malaysia Airlines Limited was created some years later, in 1963 and in 1965, with the separation of Singapore from Malaysia, Malaysian Airlines Limited became a bi-national airline being renamed Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA). The airline demonstrated positive signs of growth when a new logo was introduced as well as new services to Perth, Taipei, Rome and London. In 1972, however the partners went separate ways and Malaysia introduced Malaysian Airline Limited, subsequently renamed as Malaysian Airline System, taking to the skies in October of the same year. Malaysia Airlines is considering a "modular product model" says the carrier's new CEO, with an aim of offering better value to passengers and drive up sales.The fact that the airline does not have a premium economy product means that there is a large difference in price between its premium offering and its lowest travel class.
